After 46 days of skilled organizing that demonstrated the power of worker solidarity, the United Auto Workers union delivered a significant victory that will concretely improve the lives of workers.

Union leader Sean Fain's tactical brilliance and message discipline kept the public dialogue focused on the greed of the auto companies and created a fresh example of what solidarity can accomplish.

In the final deal struck, General Motors tentatively agreed to a 25% wage increase that took the rising cost of living into account. The top wage will now be over $42 an hour by 2028, and workers successfully eliminated an unfair two-tiered wage system for newer employees.

But that's not it. The agreement also secures permanent positions for temporary workers and raises benefits, including increased 401(k) contributions.

Additionally, the UAW secured a future for their workers by winning a pathway for workers at GM's electric car battery plants to earn the same wages as others and won $2,500 in additional payments to retirees and surviving spouses.

This agreement was only possible because of the diligence of the workers and their union — and the solidarity of Our Revolution members like you who stood with our union siblings at UAW on picket lines across the country.
