BAHFA is drafting a November 2024 ballot measure that would raise as much as $10-$20 billion in funding for the entire nine-county Bay Area to create and preserve affordable housing. BAHA is spearheading the campaign efforts to get this affordable housing bond measure passed.

When it comes to building a future of housing justice in the Bay Area, change is possible!

Join us remotely on Wednesday, November 15, 12:00PM-1:00PM PT as we host our first Begins with Home Campaign Briefing for the Shift the Bay network, diving into the research and strategic approach behind our 2024 public information campaign. In addition to a presentation from EMC Research sharing our latest polling, this briefing will identify ways you and your organization can get involved with the campaign over the next year and what to expect from us in coming months.

The Context Changing hearts and minds Begins with Home, NPH’s new public information campaign to build the public support we need to advance affordable housing solutions. Our campaign invites our Bay Area community to be part of a new movement of advocates and neighbors— renters and landlords, homeowners and people experiencing homelessness— joining together to unlock a new future for the Bay Area where no one is left behind.

✊ Anti-Racist Champions of Change (ARCC) Completes First Year!

Group of year 1 cohort in front of an art piece.

Last month, ARCC completed its first-ever program year, which brought together teams of BIPOC managers and executives from MidPen Housing and Mercy Housing California to explore leadership development and organizational transformation towards an equitable affordable housing industry.

Our Work Together Through a series of sessions that included skill development, honest dialogue, personal reflection, and imaginative thinking, we worked together to create a future of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across our field. Now, participants can bring back to their organizations tools and frameworks to help them toward their own paths of equity.

More Ahead Stay tuned for more reflections and lessons learned from ARCC’s first year and check out the visual notes from our closing session to see thoughts and sentiments from the cohort!

What Is ARCC?

ARCC is a one-year immersive experience designed for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) managers and their executive-level leaders in the Bay Area’s affordable housing industry who are ready to see their organization at the forefront of change and are committed to dismantling oppressive power dynamics in the affordable housing field.

💼 Org Updates: Farewell to Abram + Join Our Team!

Abram speaking at a rally

After 2 splendid years with NPH, our Policy Director Abram Diaz is transitioning out of his position with the organization to take on a Chief of Staff role in the State Assembly for Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel. From the beginning, Abram worked with the policy team to create tremendous legislative and policy accomplishments. His hard work and creative thinking will be deeply missed.

Abram has a few thoughts to share with you all as he completes his transition:

Dear affordable housing colleagues and friends,

It is with a bittersweet feeling that I share the news that I will be taking on a new role in the State Legislature in November. I have accepted a high level position as Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel.

I’ve loved my time with NPH and our work over the last 2 years has been incredibly ambitious and impactful. While I’m proud of all we accomplished together, I truly value the connections and relationship we have established as a team and community. I’ve said this from the beginning and will continue to do so: NPH is made up of professionals of the highest caliber and they are also incredibly kind people. That’s why this organization continues to lead the industry in vision and accomplishments and why I believe the future of NPH is in good hands.

Thank you all so much for working with me and know that I expect to continue to be an asset to NPH in my new capacity. I am committed to continuing to serve as a resource to the Policy Team and the broader affordable housing ecosystem. I look forward to seeing NPH grow in new ways.

We’ll miss you, Abram!

We’re hiring! NPH is currently looking for people who are passionate about affordable housing to join our team. We have two positions open to help support our vision of housing and racial justice in the Bay Area:
