Government Shutdown Clock: 17 days remain

If Congress does not pass a budget bill or CR by Friday, November 17, the government will shut down.
The House has passed 5 out of 12 Appropriations bills.
The Senate has passed none.
Unless the twelve appropriation bills that fund our government are enacted into law by midnight November 17 (17 days from now) we will—once again—be confronted by a full or partial government shutdown.
As of yesterday afternoon, the House has passed 5 of the 12 Approps bills on party-line votes and may pass two more by the end of the week. Their bills are loaded with MAGA poison pills such as further slashing of the social safety net, loathsome culture-war assaults on democracy and human dignity, and big cuts to environmental programs, combined with increased spending on defense and new nuclear weapons. President Biden has threatened that he will veto at least some of them if they are passed. But will he do so if they are combined into a huge one-bill-funds-all omnibus or multiple minibus bills?
Meanwhile, the Senate has not yet passed even a single appropriation bill, though senators are currently voting on a minibus combining three bills: Military Construction/Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Transportation-HUD.
Without appropriation bills, the only way to prevent a shutdown is passage of yet another Continuing Resolution (CR). Which MAGA Republicans have—as usual—threatened to block unless their political blackmail demands are met.

In the meantime, voting in Ohio and Virginia continues until Tuesday, November 7. That means we have one week left to let as many voters as we can know that their vote is needed.
You can contact voters in whatever way works for you. Some options can be done from home (although the work now shifts away from postal outreach to more immediate methods such as phone and text), while others are available at in-person events. Find it all on our (Get Out the) Vote page ([link removed]) .
If you’d rather work locally, there’s work to do here in California, too, to prepare for next year’s primary election in just a few short months. Activate America is running postcard campaigns ([link removed]) to three states, and California is one of them, with three flippable districts currently held by Republicans where folks need to know about the MAGA Republicans representing them in the halls of Congress.

Get your 2023 vaccines
------------------------------------------------------------
To keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our neighbors safe from respiratory illnesses that can cause long-term complications, it's important that we keep up with our annual vaccinations. There are at least two shots you should get this fall: one for COVID-19 and one for flu. If you’re sixty or older, you should also get the new vaccine for RSV ([link removed]) .
Availability of the new, updated COVID-19 vaccines is gradually improving. If you haven’t gotten vaccinated yet, it might be time to give it another try. Most places have Pfizer, Moderna, or both, and Costco and Rite Aid have the new third option, Novavax.
The COVID-19 vaccines are still free, but the details have changed. People with insurance will have to present their insurance, and their insurance will be billed. People without insurance can get the new vaccine for free via the CDC’s Bridge Access Program.

Get free COVID-19 tests from USPS and also from your insurance provider

The USPS and the Biden Administration have reopened the ordering site for free COVID-19 home test kits. Use these rapid antigen tests before attending (or hosting) a gathering or other event; if you test positive, cancel—or wear a good (N95) mask and gather outside if possible. Get your tests today! ([link removed])
Also, as a California resident, you can still get your insurance provider to reimburse you for at-home COVID-19 test purchases ([link removed]) , thanks to SB 510, passed in 2021. The rules will change on November 11, so the window is closing fast—you can get covered for up to eight tests per person before then.
And feel free to send this information ([link removed]) to anyone else you know who might need COVID-19 home tests.
