Dear John,
The People's Fund is a grantmaking program by Mercy For Animals that seeks to address racial inequity in funding within the animal protection movement. Since 2020, we have regranted over $950,000 to 28 organizations and advocates in the United States.
In September we hosted a Donor Connection Day event where BIPGM-led organizations and activists working to transform the food system had the opportunity to share their work with movement funders and Mercy For Animals’ Compassion Collective members. Following this event, The People’s Fund was able to grant to three outstanding organizations and initiatives on a mission to ensure plant-based foods are accessible to the communities they serve.
Meet these outstanding visionary leaders:
A Table in the Wilderness's mission is to provide healthy spiritual and physical food to those who need it. They conduct free interactive cooking classes, grocery shopping tours, and health education classes.
Texas Eats Green is an initiative dedicated to advocating for plant-based options in restaurants within BIPOC communities across the four major cities of Texas: Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Their primary goal is to encourage local businesses not only to add vegan options to their menus but also to commit to keeping them available year-round.
The Vegans of Los Angeles Food Bank provides free fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and vegan products to those that are dealing with economic hardships and are struggling with proper nutrition. They are currently providing this service at two physical locations every third Thursday of the month and servicing close to 650 families.
