PowerSwitch Action stands firmly in solidarity with the people of Gaza and their inalienable human rights to safety, dignity, and peace. We mourn the lives of the Israeli citizens murdered in early October. The memory of all those who have lost their lives demands that we speak up for peace and freedom.
The United States has been an architect of this crisis. The violence inflicted on the people of Palestine — from cutting off food, water, and electricity to bombing civilian areas and routes out of Gaza — has been funded by our public dollars, defended by American politicians, and aided by US corporations. On top of the billions of US dollars that flow to the Israeli military annually, our government is now seeking to provide even more financial support to a disaster that is worsening with each passing day, without an end to violence in sight for anyone living in the region. This support flows while many prominent politicians have stayed silent on increased anti-Semitism in the US that is the result of the rise of white nationalism. These same leaders are instigating more bloodshed by creating an atmosphere here in the US that bears chilling similarities to the post-9/11 period and the dangerous rise of Islamophobia in our country and across the globe. We recommit ourselves to the struggle to eradicate Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in our country.
While our government funds violence and certain politicians instigate hate, US corporations are directly gaining revenue from the occupation and the bloodshed in the region. Corporations that produce surveillance technology, weapons, or military infrastructure like Amazon, Lockheed Martin, and RTX all have a financial stake in continued global violence and war. We envision a world free from corporate domination and where human dignity is not sacrificed on behalf of corporate profits.
We can not stand by as oppression, state-sanctioned violence, militarization, and the dehumanization of people run rampant. As organizers in the US, we know how these systems harm our people and know that they are replicated and maintained around the world: displacement of communities, mass incarceration, exposure to environmental hazards. Our work demands breaking these systems. We envision freedom for our communities, both in the US and abroad, where everyday people have power and can live in dignity and safety.
We are joining the millions of people worldwide calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an end to US military aid to Israel, and for dignity, peace, and freedom for the Palestinians and for all people in the region.
