Dear Friends,
The House will hear testimony today regarding new bills that aim to legalize compensated surrogacy. Michigan already allows volunteer surrogates, but "rent-a-womb" practices are currently banned (and for good reason!).
Paid surrogacy threatens women's safety and would inevitably result in the commodification of life. Surrogate mothers and their children would be dangerously open to exploitation. With financial incentives in place, there's more opportunity for human trafficking.
