If we don't invest in key state legislative races, we'll be locked out of power for the next decade.

Friends,

We often get asked how a potential Democratic presidential nominee would affect down-ballot races.

As we’ve seen from this week, it’s hard to make predictions in a rapidly changing race. But my response is simple to all the pundits and reporters grappling with the question after Super Tuesday: It won’t matter who the nominee is if Democrats continue to be massively out-raised in the state legislative races that hold the keys to reshape our political landscape for the next decade and beyond.

No matter who is at the top of the ticket, the single-biggest challenge facing Democrats down-ballot is lack of money. According to our latest analysis, Republicans are vastly out-raising Democrats in the most competitive races in the most strategically important state legislative chambers across the country:

  • In the Texas House, Democrats have raised just 66.6% of what Republicans have.
  • In the Florida House, Democrats have raised just 15.8% of what Republicans have.
  • In both the Arizona House and Senate, Democrats have raised just 36.3% of what Republicans have.
  • In both the North Carolina House and Senate, Democrats have raised just 39.5% of what Republicans have.

Democratic candidates cannot compete in tough legislative districts if they do not have the resources needed to win—regardless of who wins the Democratic presidential nomination—and now’s the critical moment to direct the energy and resources from the top of the ticket down the ballot. 2020 is a once-in-a-generation chance to win back power in key state legislative chambers to build a xxxxxx against Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Chip in now to help us strategically invest in the down-ballot races that will secure Democratic majorities in key state houses in time to stop the GOP’s distortion of our democracy.

Thanks for being a part of our fight,

David
