End the Carnage

John: The events of the last 48 hours have deeply disturbed us. The Tuesday afternoon bombing of a densely-populated refugee camp in Gaza has made one thing abundantly clear: **the unnecessary carnage must stop**. Americans are horrified by the images that have been broadcast to the world of both dead Palestinians and Israelis, and this conflict only serves to divide us further and inflict pain on innocent civilians.

The images from the Middle East evoke some of our deepest emotions: fear, anger, pain. These emotions are creating a situation in which Americans are distrustful of their neighbors, and are beginning to divide themselves into tribalistic camps based off where their allegiances lie. These camps are continuing to spread anger and sow hatred amongst fellow Americans. We cannot have this in our country. The truth is, this hatred is coming from a place of extreme hurt. We are all devastated by the constant barrage of images too graphic and too painful to describe. This onslaught of distressing content causes us to lash out, and is the root of this terrible American divide. With that being said, the best way to help to heal this divide is through a ceasefire in Gaza, and a safe return of the Israeli hostages. No one wins in a war that is full of needless killing of children and innocent civilians. 

 

**President Biden must take strong action to ensure that the carnage ends as soon as possible**. America can no longer stand by as Palestinian children are blown apart by rockets as casualties of a conflict in which they have no part in. President Biden needs to tell Prime Minister Netanyahu that Israel must enforce a ceasefire. Simultaneously, he must communicate that the taking of hostages is unacceptable, and that Hamas must safely return those that they have captured. This is the only way in which much-needed healing can be done by both the civilians of Palestine and Israel, as well as in the hearts of a devastated American people. 

 

In times like these it is important to remember to hold your loved ones tight, and to pray for peace at home and abroad. Confront hate where you see it, look out for your neighbor, and bring love into the world at a time in which it is desperately needed. We apologize for the solemn tone of this email, but we have heard the pain that our supporters are feeling, and want them to know that they are not alone.
