John --
I am thrilled to share exciting news with you! I have been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2023 Climate Breakthrough Award from the folks at the global philanthropy organization Climate Breakthrough. This is a three-year award, investing over $3 million dollars into our work.
The Climate Breakthrough Award is recognition for our collective work bringing unlikely alliances together to protect the land and water!
This Award shines an international spotlight on our work stopping risky pipelines, including the Keystone XL, and the model we created that literally changed business as usual in fossil fuel infrastructure fights over the last decade.
But more importantly, the Award serves as a significant investment in the next chapter of our work to protect the land and water with unlikely alliances.
As you know, rural communities hold the majority of land needed to build America's next 100 years of energy, which will not only power our homes, farms, ranches and businesses, but will also protect the land and water for future generations.
However, there is a big problem -- over the last decade, Big Oil suits have lied to rural Americans about clean energy. This has created confusion and divides, resulting in wind and solar being zoned out of rural towns, and forcing our country to keep relying on fossil fuels to power our communities.
With this Climate Breakthrough Award, I am setting out to develop a new economic and cultural model of energy development -- one that is built on energy freedom and land justice.
-
First, we will create an American Energy Dividend, so that residents of rural towns building clean energy get a payment check every year. Landowners should continue to get yearly easement payments, and the rest of the local community should benefit financially as well.
-
Second, we will organize in rural towns across America, bringing together unlikely alliances to ensure clean energy projects respect property rights, and help diversify our country's energy sources, so we are not beholden to Big Oil.
-
Third, we will build consensus within communities on the siting of these projects, and put in place eminent domain, zoning, and decommissioning regulations that bring energy parity across all sectors -- including for pipelines.
I’m deeply grateful for the constant love and support from you. Please know that the Bold team will continue fighting risky pipelines with our Pipeline Fighters Hub and the Easement Action Teams LLC. In addition to that critical work, my focus at Bold will be building this new chapter of our organization.
We're all in this together, and I will need your continued support in this work.
Thanks for standing with us. Let's keep getting things done for the people.
