A Republican majority in Congress has been disastrous. There are enough examples to point to in this month alone. McCarthy’s short tenure as Speaker was characterized by chaos and disorder, and the rest of his party has shown us it’s no different.

This chaos has serious consequences for the American people. In the 22 days Republicans spent without a speaker, they delayed the passage of critical spending bills and progress on crucial legislative solutions to our most pressing issues. And now, with Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House, the Republican party's attacks on reproductive rights, gun safety legislation, and LGBTQ+ rights are bound to intensify. Their majority cannot last.
