Dear John,
Did you know that a majority of states have some form of private school choice? Texas has none. Every Texas child should be afforded the opportunity to select the educational options which best suit his or her individual needs. You can find out more and have your questions answered at

Parental choice is becoming more and more necessary as we face the unimaginable in our schools. With HB 900 we are stopping the exposure of sexually explicit content and inappropriate materials. And many parents are now making the choice to homeschool their children. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from public schools and choose private schools or homeschool them instead. Texas Values offers resources to help you understand your rights when withdrawing your child from public school. We pray that these resources are helpful as you prepare to send your children back into the classroom.
Texas Values is supportive of legislation that will create more educational opportunities for parents and kids in the state of Texas. In the Third Special in 88th Legislative Session, Senator Brandon Creighton filed SB 1, a bill that would allow parents school choice through the establishment of Education Savings Accounts , administered by the Texas Comptroller, to be used for educational options that are the best fit for that child.
Below are arguments for why parents and students would benefit from a state governed Education Savings Account Program for students
- Time to make real education options available to all students
- This includes traditional public schools, charter schools
- An education savings account, commonly referred to as an ESA, parents and students can use funds to pay for a wide range of educational expenses. These include tuition, tutoring, textbooks, curriculum, test fees, therapies for students with special needs, and educational technology.
- 31 states have choice programs
- Education Savings Accounts balance the need for funding and freedom
- Not tied to federal dollars, so no federal mandates
- No strings attached
- This bill has strong protections for religious liberty
- Schools receiving money would not have to modify creed, practices, admissions
Bottom-line, Texas is behind many states and we as Texans need to hold our educational systems accountable, so show up and speak up! We have a member of our team at the Capitol every day during this special session advocating for school choice and parental rights! The Senate has again passed meaningful school choice legislation with education saving grants for Texas children and families, but the Texas House has not passed legislation at this time, so we are likely headed to another special session soon.
With another special session possibly coming we need your help now! We have used a lot of resources trying to empower parents to make the best choice for there children! We need to raise $100,000 by midnight tonight to cover our expenses for this month and put us in a strong position moving into the end of the year!
