John, before running for elected office, I spent decades of my career in nursing and public health, working at some of Wisconsin’s largest health care institutions.
The health and safety of individuals in this state is why I became lieutenant governor — because every Wisconsinite deserves access to quality, affordable health care and prescription drugs that won’t break the bank.
Right now, Wisconsin is 1 of only 10 states in the country that has not expanded Medicaid and it's costing Wisconsin taxpayers billions of dollars. Republicans have rejected our commonsense proposals again and again.

Today, I stood with Democratic partners in the legislature, patients, and doctors to introduce legislation that will finally expand BadgerCare and return federal tax dollars to the people of Wisconsin.
While Republican legislators continue to play politics with people’s health and insurance, Democrats have long been committed to addressing the pressing issues facing our state. Right now, we once again have the opportunity to do the right thing, listen to the will of the people, and invest in the health and well-being of Wisconsinites.
I promise that we will not stop fighting to expand health care coverage, lower prescription costs for everyone, and protect folks from outrageous out-of-pocket expenses.
