We don’t want our tax dollars to fund genocide! Dear Email, We are writing to you today with utmost urgency, that requires immediate action. On Thursday, a $14.3 billion stand-alone supplemental appropriations bill for Israel is set to be voted on, and we must overwhelm Congress to take a stand against it. This legislation proposes providing additional weapons to Israel, which, as we all know, have been used to further its gross violations of human rights, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Today, Israel committed a horrific massacre in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip (killing 400+ civilians and others injured). This is further evidence of how Israel uses the weapons funded by us, American taxpayers, to continue the crime of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Occupation Forces (IDF) claimed to have targeted a senior Hamas commander near the Indonesian Hospital, a major facility in Gaza. However, this airstrike caused extensive destruction in a residential area within the camp. According to the Ministry of Interior in Gaza, six bombs, each weighing a ton of explosives, were dropped on the Jabalia refugee camp, destroying a residential neighborhood in the center of the camp. This proves that Israel is not heeding the Biden administration’s calls to abide by the International humanitarian law that prioritizes the protection of civilians. Since October 7th, at least 9,000 Palestinians have been murdered by Israel’s war crimes. More than two-thirds of the death toll has been civilians, with more than 3,500 children and about 2,300 women. What's equally troubling is the lack of transparency and accountability surrounding the proposed $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) for offshore procurement (OSP) to bolster Israel's weapons industry. This lack of oversight makes it impossible to track how US funds are being used, which goes against the principles of responsible governance and leadership. We must call on our elected officials to vote NO on this supplemental appropriations bill for Israel. The consequences of this decision are far-reaching and touch upon issues of human rights, accountability, and the responsible, not to mention legal, use of US resources. We urge you to make your voice heard by contacting your Member of Congress ASAP and express your concerns about this bill. Let them know that you reject funding genocide and that you expect them to stand for transparency, accountability, and responsible governance. We cannot prioritize military funding utilized to commit war crimes, the crime of genocide, and crimes against humanity over human lives. Please take a moment to call your Member of Congress using our action tool here and ask them to vote NO on the Israel Supplemental Appropriations Bill. Thank you for your prompt attention to this critical matter. Sincerely, American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) |
