Just remember, the 15-week abortion ban promoted by Republicans is their way of attempting to look reasonable, but being reasonable is not their true intent. Governor Youngkin has mentioned several times that he would gladly sign whatever abortion ban bill lands on his desk. Based on past actions, I can assure you that a Republican General Assembly would deliver an abortion ban that looks like the near-total bans in Florida, Texas, and other southern states.
Moreover, OBGYNs have told lawmakers that the "save the mother's life" exception in many state abortion bans is often vague, and the language is unclear about what qualifies as a mother's life is in danger, what the risk of death is, and how imminent death must be before a provider can act.
We know that abortion bans that are stricter than Virginia's current Roe V Wade framework are draconian and an usurpation of a woman's right to reproductive freedom. Such bans would harm women, criminalize providers, and reduce access to medical care for everyone in the affected communities. We cannot subject our daughters to this kind of future.
There are many other examples of policies that are serving Virginians well but would be at risk with a Republican trifecta, such as sound environmental policies, gun safety laws that are reducing suicides, worker protection laws, and increases in the minimum wage. Let's keep the Commonwealth moving forward and make a plan to vote!
