It’s the final day of October, which means it’s (1) Halloween and (2) the last chance to hit our monthly fundraising goal. So before it’s time for costumes and candy, we have to ask: Can you rush a donation of $20 or any amount to help protect the freedom to vote in 2023, 2024, and beyond?

As we keep pushing back against voter suppression attempts, we need to keep hitting every monthly fundraising goal.

And you don’t have to look any further than this terrifying trifecta of anti-voter Republican governors to see what we’re up against:

Brian Kemp in Georgia: As Secretary of State, he oversaw canceling more than 1.4 million voter registrations and advised closing a higher percentage of voting locations than in any other state — disproportionately silencing people of color. And as governor, he’s signed bills to impose burdensome voter ID requirements, criminalize handing out food and water to voters in line, permit mass voter challenges, criminalize hardworking county officials, and deny them desperately-needed election funds. In short, he’s a chief architect of modern-day voter suppression.

Ron DeSantis in Florida: As governor, he has signed multiple laws to restrict the right to vote, including creating a state agency that could be used to criminalize and intimidate voters, trying to reduce representation for Black voters through redistricting, and penalizing organizations working to register voters. His attacks on voting are just part of his ongoing and dangerous campaign to deny the people of Florida their fundamental freedoms — which extends to banning conversations about race and gender in schools. And he’s trying to take that extremist agenda all the way to the White House.

Greg Abbott in Texas: In 2021, he signed a sweeping restrictive voting law which he proclaimed was a “paradigm” for other states — further restricting vote-by-mail and creating new criminal and civil penalties for poll workers. More recently, he called for investigations into elections in Harris County — home to Houston — and signed a bill that could allow the Secretary of State to take over how elections are run in the county. His leadership is making it harder for Texans to make their voices heard in our democracy.

We take these anti-voter governors seriously. And to help prevent future attacks on the freedom to vote, we’re asking you to chip in before midnight. Your donation, of any amount, will help ensure voters have the resources they need to access the ballot box, push back against voter suppression tactics, elect voting rights champions, and more.

Thanks for everything you do,

The Fair Fight Team
