John,
Do you know what’s scarier than ghosts and goblins this Halloween?
Nearly 7 in 10 women experience adverse economic impact from not having adequate child care, resulting in them being forced to take unpaid leave, cut back working hours, leave their jobs, or drop out of the job market completely.1
Additionally, by 2034, adults aged 65 and older will outnumber children aged 18 and younger for the first time in U.S. history.2 We currently have a care workforce that is greatly diminishing due to being overworked and burned out during the coronavirus pandemic and grossly underpaid for backbreaking, emotionally intensive work.
The care economy―including child care, home- and community-based care, and paid family and medical leave―is intricately linked to the economic well-being of not just families in the U.S. but the country overall. And yet, Congress has failed to invest in everything from paid leave to child care to life-saving services for people with disabilities to ensuring care workers are paid a liveable wage.
Any proposals to invest in our care economy will require massive grassroots and lobbying pressure on every member of Congress. Time and again, we’ve shown the power of our national grassroots network, and I am confident we can win this fight, with you by our side.

This year―instead of focusing on increasing funding to essential programs like SNAP, keeping people on the Medicaid roles, and lifting millions of care workers out of poverty―Congress has instead made it a priority to give more handouts to their wealthy donors through attempts to defund the IRS and extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations.
We know that when the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, we can afford investments in working people, vulnerable communities, people with disabilities, and the aging.
Now that Congress is back to negotiating funding bills to keep the government open past November 17th, it’s critical that we continue to keep the pressure on, demanding investments in the care economy. Donate $5
today to fight for vulnerable communities and workers.
