John,
It's Tara — Founder and Publisher of Courier Newsroom.
In a moment, I’m going to share how you can help us fight back against our country’s information crisis.
But if you're short on time, here's the gist:
Our local newsrooms in nine battleground states are debunking misinformation with factual journalism and meaningful stories — covering everything from state and local elections to holding bad actors like Fox News and Donald Trump accountable.
But to keep these important stories free and accessible for anyone who wants them, we need your help to reach our October fundraising goal.
The issue is this: our fundraising has slowed down a lot in comparison to last month — at the same time that our work is picking up just one week out from election day.
I founded Courier Newsroom because local newsrooms keep closing, leaving millions of Americans to rely on social media feeds and inboxes to learn about important local issues and news.
Our mission at Courier Newsroom is to reverse this alarming trend. During the 2022 midterm election, we became a go-to source for trustworthy information on ballot initiatives and key down-ballot races.
While the 2024 election may seem like a distant thought, our newsrooms have continued to cover ongoing attacks on our fundamental rights and democracy across the country.
In Virginia, critical elections are being held in a week. As the last state in the South to protect abortion rights, Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Republican state legislators have promised to ban abortion, roll back voting rights, and more if they reclaim the state Senate.
Right now, our reporters have their work cut out for them — to ensure they have the resources they need, we have to reach our $14,000 fundraising goal before we wrap up October. So I'm asking one more time:
Will you pitch in to support our newsrooms ahead of tonight's deadline?
Thanks so much,
Tara McGowan
