Building Resilience Against Manipulative Disinformation

Every day, young people online are exposed to disinformation, conspiracy theories and supremacist thinking. How can we build youth resilience in order to withstand this torrent of manipulative disinformation? Start with supporting young people’s mental health and well-being. In this new article ([link removed]) , Lydia Bates of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project provides recommendations for addressing vulnerabilities to disinformation in young people. Prevention is crucial. Bates writes, “Incremental lessons, honest conversations and community networking can support young people’s resilience against efforts to undermine civic engagement and learning environments grounded in safety and belonging.”
