Our experts have been hard at work developing a tool kit to facilitate conversations about memory culture in urban spaces. The result? The Monumental Bag, a large orange bag containing tools to spark discussions about monuments in public spaces.

In celebration of the official unveiling of the Monumental Bag, we are hosting an event series about memory culture from November 2nd through November 4th. Explore the history of monuments and their place in society with panel discussions, installations, and workshops. Be sure to stick around after the events on Thursday and Friday for snacks, drinks, and lively conversation.

We’ll kick off the program with an interactive presentation of the Monumental Bag that fuses video and dialogue to reflect on our role in shaping the future of monuments in public spaces. Bonus: You’ll get a sneak peek of our tool kit the Monumental Bag! Hang out after the event to mingle and enjoy some snacks and wine.

Experts present an array of local, national, and international exhibits on memory in public spaces. Then, the discussion turns toward the DMV as interdisciplinary experts share recent and ongoing public memory projects in the area. Stay put after the talk for a lively reception filled with conversation, music, and wine!
