I hope you're not too superstitious because with the election one week away, today is the perfect day to talk about some truly terrifying things that could happen if Republicans take the legislature this November in Virginia. Picture this: a Republican-controlled legislature in Virginia, a chilling prospect that could bring a parade of alarming changes:

Banned Books

As a teacher, I firmly believe we must learn all of our history, even when it’s hard to face it. Classic stories like “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “To Kill A Mockingbird” are being banned throughout our state due to legislation championed by my Republican opponent. 

Prescription Drug Prices

In the last year, pharmaceutical companies raised prices on more than 1,200 drugs at a rate nearly four times higher than inflation. That is all too terrifying and real for the 1 in 4 Virginians who have to ration or go without their prescription medication because of cost. I co-sponsored legislation this year to address this by creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board - but Republicans killed the bill in committee.

Abortion Access 

Imagine the terror of not having the freedom to control our own bodies and futures. Having a child is a deeply personal decision that should remain between a patient and their health care provider - without politician’s interference.

Environment: It’s alarming that my opponent has voted to allow corporate polluters to dump “forever chemicals” into our water supply. She is putting our community at risk for numerous health issues, including heart disease, liver or kidney cancer and infertility. If Republicans retake the legislature, environmental protections might become a ghost of the past.

The good news is, we can make a difference by electing Democratic candidates who stand for our values, our rights, and our future.
