Our leaders are failing to protect our precious environment. It’s alarming, isn’t it?
It’s a problem across the country. For example, Northern Ireland is the new Wild West for gold mining and other extractive industries in the UK.
Mining companies have been given a free pass to tear up the land – all in the name of profit.
They plan to crack open mountains in their hunt for gold. And dredge sand from protected wetland habitats. All without a thought for the devastating impacts this will have on the environment we love and depend on.
Together we must act. Friends of the Earth is taking on these extractive industries in court and we’re already helping hold back the destruction. But we need the best legal and campaigning expertise to challenge governments and big businesses, and it isn’t cheap.

Right now, there are 15 sites allocated for natural resource exploitation in Northern Ireland. As well as ripping up mountains for gold and dredging precious wetlands, farmland could be dug up for building materials.
This destruction and pollution are already wreaking havoc on our environment. But together we can help stop this devastation caused by cowboy companies and lax law-makers.
