Call your rep and tell them to expel Santos today

Indivisibles,

George Santos is a liar, a fraud, and a Trump loyalist currently facing 23 counts in federal court. Despite all of that, he refuses to relinquish his seat as the representative for NY’s third congressional district. While Democrats have been steadfast in their calls for Santos to resign, MAGA Republicans have been protecting him, refusing to hold him accountable for his deceptions in order to hold onto their thin majority.

But at this point, even some Republicans are fed up.

Late last week, Rep. Anthony D’Esposito moved a motion to expel Santos on the House floor with the support of a group of New York Republicans. Santos is so crooked that his own party is finally turning on him. But most importantly, because it is a privileged motion, it must be acted on this week. There’s no time to lose.

Call your representative and demand that they expel George Santos immediately.

The first shoe dropped in December of 2022 when The New York Times published a bombshell exposé entitled “Who Is Rep.-Elect George Santos? His Résumé May Be Largely Fiction.” The piece reveals that Santos had never worked for Citigroup or Goldman Sachs, never graduated from Baruch College, did not run a tax-exempt charitable organization, had an open case against him in Brazil, and was the sole owner of a company paying him $750,000 per year with “no public-facing assets or other property that The Times could locate.”

And the lies kept coming. (Most recently capped by making claims that his niece was kidnapped.)

But ultimately, it was his grifting of donors and supporters that led to his federal indictments. These charges include wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, filing a false report with the Federal Elections Commission, and conspiracy to commit offenses against the US, among others.

In lay terms, his charges stem from allegedly filing fraudulent campaign reports inflating his campaign’s worth, charging donor credit cards repeatedly without their consent, and using a fake non-profit to funnel donor money to himself.

The original 13 charges were filed back in May, but a 23-charge superseding indictment was filed on October 10, following his campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the US government.

That’s right, no one believes Santos’ stories -- not federal prosecutors, not his fellow Republicans, and not even his own campaign treasurer who helped in his schemes. But while the justice system continues to do its work, people like newly-elected Speaker Mike Johnson refuse to expel Santos because, as he put it in an interview with Sean Hannity, “we have a four-seat majority in the House, it is possible that that number may be reduced even more in the coming weeks and months, and so we’ll have what may be the most razor-thin majority in the history of the Congress. We have no margin for error.”

Well then let’s make sure the rest of the House takes care of what Johnson is too cowardly to do.

The vote to expel Santos could come as soon as today, so call your representative and demand they expel George Santos from the House of Representatives immediately.

At some point, congress has to agree that there is a baseline of moral conduct necessary to represent the American people. George Santos is 20 ft below any baseline we could possibly conceive. The people of New York deserve better. Our country deserves better. Call your representative today!
