Happy Halloween, John!
With more festivities planned for today, over the weekend I marched in the 38th annual Bronx Halloween Parade.
For decades, the parade has been a staple community event in the borough. It was a “boo”-tiful day to celebrate the Bronx with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, Assemblymember Burgos, and Council Member Salamanca.
This year, my Halloween costume is a “controller”.... Get it? :-)
John, I’ve seen many Halloween frights in NYC over the years, from monstrous subway rats to the 2011 Halloween nor'easter.
But here’s what’s seriously spooking me this Halloween – and what I’m doing to achieve a more just, more equal, and more sustainable New York City:
Reckless drivers haunting our streets: I called to reauthorize and strengthen the Dangerous Vehicle Abatement program, which just expired on Friday. Without a back up plan, the City has no way to hold dangerous drivers accountable on City streets.
Fox News's ghoulish disregard for the truth: We brought a lawsuit against Fox Corporation on behalf of New York City’s public pension funds to hold the company accountable. Fox’s lies have put shareholders – including nearly 800,000 current and retired City employees – on the hook to cover more than three-quarters-of-a-billion-dollars in needless defamation settlements.
Ghastly extreme rainfall caused by climate change: I launched an emergency investigation into the City’s Hurricane Ophelia response. With the knowledge we gain, our City will be better prepared for the next big storm.
The challenges New Yorkers face right now can be spooky – but they are less frightening when we’re working together toward a more competent, compassionate government for all New Yorkers.
May your day be all treats, no tricks! And thank you again.
In solidarity,
Brad 🎃
