¡No Pasarán! is an anti-fascist slogan from the Spanish Civil War. It translates as “they shall not pass”, and it was the rallying cry of the Republicans and the International Brigades as they battled Franco’s Nationalist forces.

From Spain, ¡No Pasarán! spread to the Battle of Cable Street, where 300,000 anti-fascists blocked the planned march route for Mosley’s fascist Blackshirts, and clashed with police. And the fascists didn’t pass that day.

Today, it’s still used within anti-fascist circles, not just just a statement of intent but as a legacy to anti-fascists past, to whom we all owe a debt.
