Two years ago, several MAGA Republicans wanted Mike Pence hanged for not helping them steal the 2020 election.

Last week, those Republicans hand-picked the new speaker of the House — somebody who helped invent the Big Lie and actually led his party in following through on that lie (in the moments Mike Pence’s life was in danger).

Kudos to Pence for finally realizing he never had a prayer of being the Republican nominee.

This is the direction we’ve been headed for some time. And it’s clearer than ever that one party in America is openly opposed to democracy. The only question is who will fight back.

Mike Johnson’s election to speaker of the house is the final straw in the Trump takeover of the Republican Party. The only person who could unite that party is the one who got famous helping concoct an excuse for Republicans to reject the rightful election results.

That’s the only reason this man is now the 3rd most powerful elected official in America.

They’ve run virtually everyone else out of the party — including Trump’s own vice president.
The insurrectionists fell just short in the early days of 2021. They orchestrated the deadliest, most dangerous attack on the U.S. Capitol since the War of 1812. But American democracy held on.

Trump and his stooges view the next election as their second chance. And if we fail to stop them, it’s hard to see how democracy as we know it can survive.

It is our duty to do everything in our power to ensure Trumpism loses. Please, if you can, chip in to defend our democracy against Trump and his allies who are rising in power.

Mike Johnson and I both swore to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. It appears one of us never took that oath seriously.
