John,

Last week, President Biden made shameful remarks doubting the reports of
casualties coming out of the Gaza Health Ministry, suggesting they are
exaggerated.

In the days following that disgraceful statement, Israel went on to cut
off all of Gaza’s communications with the outside world — in direct
violation of international law — and carried out unprecedented bombings of
the Gaza strip in total darkness.

For days, Palestinians could not reach their families, nor could they call
for ambulances or medical aid to save innocent lives. Some were using
mosque megaphone systems to vocalize their prayers and desperate pleas for
help as bombs relentlessly fell throughout the night.

The videos and accounts coming out of Gaza in the aftermath show people
digging through collapsed buildings trying to find survivors, pulling
young children and babies from the rubble. People are starving and
desperately drinking seawater because they’ve run out of clean drinking
water and food. Hospitals are running out of fuel. This situation grows
more dire by the day.

Now, the death toll surpasses 8,000 people, including more than 3,300
children. Whether Biden believes it or not, those numbers are only growing
each day he enables Israel’s genocide and refuses to demand a ceasefire.

Israel has since restored Gaza’s internet after U.S. pressure, proving
that our government has the power and leverage to demand an end to this
violent ethnic cleansing we are not only witnessing but funding.

While bombs rained on Gaza over the weekend, millions of people in cities
around the world took to the streets for massive marches and displays of
solidarity with the Palestinian people, including thousands of people with
Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow shutting down Grand Central Station in
New York City. Even the United Nations voted 120-14 for a ceasefire, but
the U.S. vetoed it.

John, the
majority of people in the U.S. and millions of others around the world are
calling for a ceasefire. But only 18 members of Congress, many of whom are
Justice Democrats-endorsed representatives, have signed on to the
resolution demanding it.

In this horrific moment in history, it’s up to us to continue using our
voices and power to stand up for the human rights of ALL people and urge
President Biden and Congress to do the right thing.
