The GOP has been in absolute chaos. Although they control the House of Representatives, they went without a speaker for 3 whole weeks. And just last week, they elected
Rep. Mike Johnson, who Axios reported as “the least experienced House speaker in 140 years.” So, we're going to quickly take you through how we got here 😅.
For starters, back on October 3rd,
Rep. Matt Gaetz (yes, the same Matt Gaetz who the DOJ began investigating for breaking federal sex trafficking laws back in 2021) led the charge in outsting
Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker. (And yes, the same Kevin McCarthy who opposed an investigation of the attempted coup of our government on January 6th, 2021.)
That means that from October 3rd to October 25th, legislative work in the House was nonexistent. Their political games got in the way of anything getting done within that time frame.
Do we need to say any more? Chip into BLM PAC now – because we're focused on electing leaders who will actually work, legislate, and lead us into a better future.
There were 4 nominees in total – including 2 in one day, and Mike Johnson, a top 2020 election denier and Trump-minion, took the title home.
It's pretty clear that Republicans don't have their shit together. They've been publicly fighting about leadership, values, and so much more – all to end up screwing over their constituents in the end anyway.
Mike Johnson's rise to House Speaker should be of concern to us ALL. He has a track record of anti-LGBTQ+, anti-abortion, and anti-democracy legislative initiatives.
Not only is Congress a concern – but the Presidential Election is nearly 1 year away. We've got a lot of work to do between now and then to transform what our current legislature looks like.
