In a moment, I’m going to ask you to make a contribution to my reelection. But first, I want to give you an explanation for why your support right now — a year before Election Day — is so important.

The Senate map for 2024 is going to come into shape over the next few months. More Republicans are going to be announcing their candidacies — just like Kari Lake did in Arizona this month, and we’ll get a sense of which races are most competitive.

Some of the map is already knowable. There are going to be Senate races that are going to be battlegrounds, no matter how much early support we give our candidates. But for the rest of the map, the work we do this year has a direct impact on where Republicans spend their money.

Republicans want to see if my Democratic colleagues and I are asleep at the wheel. If they catch any of us taking our seat for granted, it could prompt Republicans, with their limitless sums of corporate cash, to recruit a challenger and unleash an avalanche of dark money.

We cannot afford that. Our effort to hold the Senate majority will be a lot harder if we’re fighting against tens of millions of dollars in spending in a race like mine.

In other words, this is our chance to keep our race off the board — dissuade any serious challenger or Republican super PACs from getting in the race. And the best way to do that is by demonstrating a huge depth of grassroots support. So that’s why I need to ask:

Please, if you can, pitch in to my reelection today to help us send a powerful message to Republicans and the gun lobby to look elsewhere. It would go a long way and mean a lot to know you have my back.

I hope you’re proud of the work I’ve done - to lead the effort to pass the first major gun safety bill in 30 years, to help shape a responsible American foreign policy, to pass the historic 2022 climate legislation.

I need your help. And helping now is the best way to make sure that we don’t have to spend a lot more in this race in 2024.
