John,
Watching the speakership crisis unfold, we were reminded of Obi-Wan Kenobi's wisdom in Revenge of the Sith (bear with us as we walk through this metaphor):
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
The whole point of American democracy is that we work together – that our elected leaders find common ground to advance the common good.
But in order to become Speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson all but forswore any attempts at bipartisanship or compromise. Why? He needed to appease extremists.
If we want things to change in D.C., we need to start electing leaders who are more interested in solving problems than caving to the extremists in their own party.
Like the Jedi code instructs, a good Representative should strive to "serve others rather than ruling over them."
If that's the type of representative you want to see representing MI–1 in Washington D.C., chip in to Callie’s campaign today. Together, we can defeat the Sith acolyte representing our district.
