Part of our mission at Generation Progress is to build better activists and ensure progressive young people around the country have the resources they need to make a difference.

Recently we met up with our colleagues at Opportunity Youth United (OYUnited) and together we’re hatching a plan to get you access to a brand-new suite of tools for your activism.

With training and support from the Forum for Youth Investment and OYUnited, Local Team Leaders will build up their skills so they can efficiently organize a group of friends, neighbors, family members, and/or colleagues. Local Team Leaders will learn how to win over their federal Representative or Senators to support expanded investment in opportunities for young adults to access education, employment, service, and leadership programs in their communities.

There are currently 4.6 million 16- to 24-year-olds who are neither in school nor employed—this is your chance to amplify those voices, with the support of a team that can take your organizing skills to the next level. These young people have been called “Opportunity Youth,” because they are both seeking opportunity and they offer opportunity to our nation if we would invest in them. We know that this issue and this community is representative of and important to many of our Generation Progress network members, and we are excited about the work that our partners at OYUnited are doing with the Reconnecting Youth Campaign (RYC).

OYUnited is on the hunt for new Local Team Leaders for the Reconnecting Youth Campaign (RYC). The RYC is guided by Opportunity Youth United (OYUnited), the Forum for Youth Investment, CLASP, and other organizations.

The RYC is calling for an additional investment of $4 billion per year in order to open proven programs to one million young people each year. Currently there are only 350,000 young people who can get into these programs, due solely to shortage of funding.
