Voters in Ohio and Virginia are already casting their ballots in high-stakes, must-win elections that will have ripple effects across the country.

• In Virginia, if Democrats fail to control at least one chamber in the state legislature, anti-abortion extremists will rush to pass an abortion ban that the Republican governor will undoubtedly sign into law. Abortion access is a top issue for voters in the state.
• In Ohio, MAGA Republicans have done everything possible to stop or slow a critical ballot initiative that could help secure abortion rights in the state's constitution. We need Ohioans to decide what happens to their bodies and their futures—not the government and certainly not anti-abortion extremists.

John, losing either of these elections would have devastating consequences—not just for abortion access in each state, but for people in bordering states like Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia where access has already been pushed out of reach.

Ballot measures like the one in Ohio give voters the power to make decisions for their states—and time and time again, we've proven that when you let voters decide on abortion, they choose reproductive freedom. We can do it again this year.

Meanwhile, 21 states currently ban or severely restrict abortion, and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) would love nothing more than to make Virginia the 22nd. The slim majority that Democrats hold in the state Senate has stopped that from happening, but if they lose control on November 7, all bets are off.
