The clocks changed this weekend and the nights are getting longer – but Nottingham City Council’s Levelling Up Fund project to update the city’s street lights will ensure streets are well lit.
Nottingham City Council secured a grant from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to update street lights with new, energy-efficient LEDs. So far, more than 25,000 energy-efficient LEDs have been installed, saving more than 1.21 Gigawatt hours of electricity – that is the enough to power 450 homes for a year, or one (albeit fictional) flux capacitor!

Thane Road improvements continueÂ
Construction began on 23 October to improve congestion along Thane Road heading towards the ring road by increasing junction capacity at the mini-roundabout where Thane Road meets Lenton Lane.
Due to last until early January 2024, the Government-funded works will widen the road by slightly moving the existing southern footpath to enable introduce an additional traffic lane on Thane Road between Bull Close Road and the mini-roundabout.
This will provide a dedicated right turn approach lane into the mini-roundabout.
As part of the new footpath alignment, a new smooth surface will be provided and lighting columns moved out of the way to create a new shared-use unobstructed facility for pedestrians and cyclists; continuing the programme of infrastructure improvements to accommodate increasing levels of cycling.
