October 30, 2023

Dear Georgian,

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives selected our new Speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana. House Republicans unanimously supported him, and he was later sworn in as Speaker of the House after a party-line vote of 220-209.

Speaker Johnson is a good man, a good friend, and a good American. I have full faith that he will lead our Congress and country in the right direction.

I look forward to working with Speaker Johnson as Congress finalizes important appropriations measures, and I know that our shared conservative values will be reflected in all upcoming legislation in the House.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Congressman Austin Scott

Thanking our Deployed Servicemembers and Those who Support Them

Thursday was the National Day of the Deployed, where we honored the brave men and women in uniform deployed on missions worldwide.

Our district is home to thousands of guardsmen, reservists, and personnel from Robins and Moody Air Force Bases. We always honor the deployed servicemembers, their families, and friends who support our troops in harm’s way.

Seeking Spring Interns

My office is seeking full-time and part-time Spring 2024 interns in our Washington D.C. Office.

A qualified candidate should possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate an interest in public service. Interns will be expected to fulfill the regular duties of a Congressional intern and may also receive opportunities to assist the Legislative and Communications Staff. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a Congressional office.

Georgia ties are preferred, and the deadline to apply for the Spring 2024 internship is November 28th.

More information and applications can be found here.

Johnson, R-La., was elected speaker of the House during a full vote on the House floor Wednesday afternoon. The vote tally was 220 to 209.

Johnson needed 215 votes to secure the speaker's gavel Wednesday. Typically, the threshold is 217, however, due to current absences, the threshold fell to 215."
