Hey, John,
If you’ve ever wondered what keeps me up at night, it’s this number: $250,000. That’s the amount my likely GOP opponent, John Bradford, loaned himself during the first half of the year. And if I can be honest, I’m pretty worried about how much more he’s going to lend himself before next November.
The long and short of it is this: in states like ours, where voters are split about dead-even, we’re going to have to outraise John Bradford if we want to flip this office next year. And, truth be told, if you look just at the "contributions form individuals" column, we have—by a margin of three-to-one! We've got grassroots energy behind this campaign. But no matter how strong our grassroots are, when it comes time to print literature, send mail, hold campaign events, and put our message on TV, well, a quarter mil goes just as far no matter where it came from.
I believe we have a message that resonates—people are ready to see a Treasurer’s office that invests in their communities, that helps our municipalities do more, that stands up for our state employees every time. But I can’t just give myself a quarter of a million whenever I feel like it. Making sure people hear our message is going to be our biggest challenge, and I need your support to make it happen.
Tomorrow is our end-of-month deadline. I’ve talked before about how this isn’t a formal reporting deadline—but it’s important that we stay on track with our internal benchmarks. Especially given that the next reporting deadline is the end of the year, when people are going to be distracted with holidays and traveling to see family, we can’t afford to be scrambling to hit our goal at the end of December.
This month, to stay on track, we need to raise another $3,391.83 before the end of October. That sounds like a lot, but when we stand together, it’s actually not that much. In fact, if you and everyone else who opens this email gave just $25, we wouldn’t just hit our goal for October, we’d hit our goal for November, too. But the thing is, not everyone is going to contribute from this email. And that’s okay. We all have a lot going on. But I’m asking all of my supporters to seriously consider stepping up before the end of the month—we won’t keep pace with John Bradford if we don’t.

It won’t be an easy road, but I know we’ve got it if we stick together.
Thanks as always,
