Last week, we celebrated when California's state housing department published the Housing Policy and Practice Review. This long awaited report analyzes the causes of San Francisco's housing crisis and directs city officials to take specific actions to fix it. This includes a state-mandated requirement that the Board of Supervisors must pass Mayor Breed's Constraints Reduction Ordinance within 30 days to streamline housing projects.
San Francisco's eligibility for affordable housing grant money depends on its compliance. However, an article published a few days ago by the SF Standard reveals that some supervisors think HCD's directives are just "political noise," and that they are going to push back—putting the city at risk of losing hundreds of millions of dollars in crucial funding. This absolutely cannot happen. That's why SF YIMBY members are mobilizing to fight back.
Please send a pre-written letter to fight back. It will only take a couple minutes to send a letter, and the Board of Supervisors needs to hear from you and understand that this is serious. Tell our elected officials to implement the housing element as written and fix the housing crisis. San Francisco can be a vibrant and affordable place for everyone who wants to live here. Let's make that vision a reality.
