Pro-Life & Pro-Religious Freedom Candidates Have Strong Showing in Texas Primary

Tuesday night’s Republican Primary Election saw several big victories for pro-life & pro-family conservative candidates across Texas and set the stage for several important primary runoff elections that will be held on May 26. In two of the most highly contested open-seat Texas House GOP races, Texas Values Action endorsed State Rep. candidates Lacey Hull (HD 138) and Jeff Cason (HD 92) both won outright victories, securing over 50% of the vote in 3-way races.

Other Texas Values Action endorsed State Rep. candidates also performed strongly, securing the most votes, in several additional contested open-seat Texas House GOP races. This includes pro-family conservatives Carrie Isaac in HD 45, Jon Francis in HD 60, and Jennifer Fleck in HD 47. All three Texas Values Action endorsed candidates are headed to the May 26 primary runoff.

At the top of the ticket statewide, President Donald Trump secured a resounding victory in the Republican Primary with 94% of the vote. President Trump, who has worked throughout his first term to protect life and religious freedom, won more votes in Texas than the top 4 Democratic candidates (Biden, Sanders, Bloomberg, and Warren) did combined.

While Tuesday’s results were a strong showing for conservative candidates committed to protecting life, religious freedom and pro-family values, the May 26 Runoff Election will be important to ensure that the strongest possible pro-family candidates are on the ballot in November to face the increasingly radical Democratic candidates throughout Texas.

Texas Values Supports Louisiana Pro-Life Law Before U.S. Supreme Court

The United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments on an important pro-life case this week, June Medical Services LLC v. Russo, a case out of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The case centers around Louisiana’s law requiring physicians who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital and if that law conflicts with the Supreme Court’s previous ruling on a case from Texas in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt.

Texas Values has signed onto an amicus brief supporting the Louisiana law with the U.S. Supreme Court. Allowing abortionists to perform highly dangerous and life altering procedures on women without being able to provide necessary medical care, especially when these procedures often result in medical emergencies, is irresponsible and unjust. We firmly support this common sense regulation that ensures women’s health and safety.
