John,
I am open about my faith to show how compatible it is with the new political home we built in West Michigan. I’m committed to creating a community where everyone can show up as their full and authentic selves. So often, extreme factions within the Republican party want to claim Christianity as a justification for their extreme politics. Well, I think it’s about time we dispel the myth that Republicans own Christianity or that Christianity means one must be anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ+.
My faith is a cornerstone of my personal and political life. Christianity heavily informs the values with which I lead. I believe that we should treat every individual with love and decency, regardless of their background. I believe in the sanctity of life, which means we have to protect a woman’s access to life-saving healthcare. I believe in a loving God who could not care less about the gender of who you love.
That is what Christianity means to me. That is how I choose to live a faith-guided life. I won’t cherrypick bible verses to fuel a message of hate like some extremists in our country will. Instead, I choose to live a life inspired by the empathy, kindness, and compassion that defines Christianity.
If you believe that West Michigan deserves a representative who is guided by faith, compassion, and empathy, I hope you will consider contributing to my reelection campaign today.
