FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #38 Dear Friends/Amigos, Last week, I was back in Washington, D.C., advocating on your behalf in the halls of Congress. Congress now has a new Speaker: Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana! I look forward to working with Speaker Johnson to address the issues directly facing Miami, especially as his proclaimed 'Media Director!' I also convened a hearing as Chair of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee analyzing the socialist Castro de Zelaya administration in Honduras. Read about some of the highlights from that hearing below! My staff and I are continuously monitoring the war between Israel and Hamas, and my office remains a resource to anyone who has family in the region who wants to leave. Feel free to call my Miami office at (305) 668-2285 with any questions. As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) I CALLED OUT THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION FOR PARTNERING WITH THE SOCIALIST CASTRO GOVERNMENT IN HONDURAS! Last week, I hosted a hearing in the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee analyzing the failures of the socialist Zelaya government of Honduras and the Biden Administration's willingness to partner with them over our allies in the region. Let me be clear: Xiomara Castro's government represents the old school socialism that her husband's administration sought to establish. She openly professes disdain for capitalism, threatens to expropriate private property, and chooses to recognize the tyrannical Chinese Communist Party in Beijing over the free and democratic government of Taiwan. Worse yet, officials from the Biden Administration are COMPLETELY unaware of President Castro's open war on Honduran institutions, especially in the case of extortion when it comes to the illegal sale of salvoconductos, or travel passes, in the department of Choluteca. I also sent a special message to the Honduran community of District 27 in Spanish. Check it out HERE! I INTRODUCED A BILL TO HELP WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS SUCCEED! I introduced a bill with my colleague, Congresswoman Grace Meng of New York, to give critical federal resources to female entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses across District 27 and the United States! Women deserve a seat at the table, and the federal government is not stepping up to the plate to move us into this reality. My bill provides for the authorization of a new chairperson to lead the now-inactive Interagency Committee on Women's Business Enterprise (ICWBE). Bringing back this federal resource will give women entrepreneurs in Miami the extra level of support they need to propel them forward in the marketplace. To read more about my bill, click HERE! THE CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE REGISTRATION CLOSES ON TUESDAY! REMINDER! All registrations for the Congressional App Challenge are due this coming Tuesday, November 1st!
