This week, HarperCollins published a new twentieth-anniversary paperback edition of Witness to Hope, the first volume of EPPC Distinguished Senior Fellow George Weigel’s acclaimed biography of Saint John Paul II. The book, hailed as “a tremendous achievement” by the Washington Post and “one of the most interesting histories of our times” by the Boston Globe, includes a new preface by Mr. Weigel and may be purchased here ([link removed]) . A tenth-anniversary edition of the second volume of the biography, The End and the Beginning, will be published later this year by Doubleday, and will also include a new preface by the author.

FELLOW IN CATHOLIC STUDIES PROGRAM

EPPC this week welcomed Francis X. Maier as a senior fellow in our Catholic Studies Program, where his work will focus on the intersection of Christian faith, culture, and public life, with special attention to lay formation and action.
Mr. Maier served as senior adviser and special assistant to Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., for 23 years in Denver and Philadelphia. He previously served as editor in chief of the National Catholic Register, and as a story analyst and screenwriter based in Los Angeles.
“Fran Maier is one of the most accomplished Catholic thinkers and writers of our time,” said George Weigel, EPPC’s Distinguished Senior Fellow and William E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies. “His voice is always a welcome one, whether the subject is the country, the world, the culture, or the Church.”
