The Auburn Police Department is cracking down on unsecured loads. Vehicle-related road debris causes crashes & unsightly litter; secured loads improve road safety & cleanliness.

Maine statute 29-A 2396 states: "A person may not operate on a public way a vehicle with a load that is not fastened, secured, confined or loaded to reasonably prevent a portion from falling off."

The Auburn PD will be rigorously enforcing this statute in the weeks & months ahead. The fine for this violation is $326!

* Take the time to secure your load with tarps, rope, straps, netting, or chains.

* Even if you are driving slowly for just a couple of blocks, you are still required to secure your load.

* Even with a small load, items can shift & become airborne. Put lighter items lower & place heavier items on top, then secure the heavy items directly to your vehicle.

* Cover your load & don’t overload your vehicle.
