Dear John,
Running for President is as grueling as it is exhilarating. It’s physically exhausting, and emotionally exhausting as well.
But the hardest part is asking for money.
Some people find raising money easy, even fun. I find it kind of embarrassing. But it’s necessary - and while money should have nothing to do with political campaigns, I can tell you it has everything to do with it. If you can’t pay your costs, then you simply can’t go on.
Particularly when you’re blackballed on media as we have been (Dean Phillips got into the race two days ago and already he’s been on Meet the Press and NBC News), the only way to reach people is through bought media. And for that, we need a lot of support.
Let me tell you why I don’t give up. I don’t give up because wherever I’m speaking, the people get it. I know without a shadow of a doubt that we’re talking about what millions of Americans want to hear, and what millions of hearts are yearning for. And that is why we’re blackballed. I think the political establishment knows this.
It’s almost the beginning of November, and now we need TV ads. We can get to Gen Z on TikTok, and that doesn’t cost money. But for everyone else I need to be in the media. And if they won’t have me on the news shows, we need to buy ads.
