John,
Impeach now, ask questions later!
This seems to be the logic behind the Republicans’ decision to launch an impeachment inquiry against President Biden, despite a complete lack of any evidence of wrongdoing.
As Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel said, “Our voters are sick and tired of Republicans getting attacked all the time through the courts, through whatever, and it's time to go after Biden."
But seeking impeachment just because “it’s time” for it sets a terrible precedent. Revenge, distraction, fishing expeditions, and appeasement of extremists, are not legitimate bases for pursuing impeachment.
We can’t let impeachment become the “new normal.” Sign the petition to denounce the baseless impeachment inquiry against President Biden.
This inquiry is a sham. It’s not about justice or accountability, it’s about the Republicans’ long-standing plans to impeach President Biden, regardless of any relevant facts.
In announcing the inquiry, then-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy cited the business dealings of the President’s son, though there is no evidence connecting the President to them.
McCarthy went on to claim that Biden had shown his son “special treatment.” But Biden has done nothing to impede the assignment of a Trump-appointed special prosecutor to the case, and McCarthy brought no evidence to support this claim either.
Republicans’ circular reasoning is evident in Rep. Nancy Mace’s comments to CNN reporter Kaitlin Collins, saying an inquiry could turn up evidence that months of investigation by Rep. Jim Jordan’s Judiciary Committee and Rep. James Comer’s Oversight and Accountability Committee have not. Collins asked, “Isn’t it supposed to be the evidence that leads you to pursue impeachment, an impeachment inquiry?”
Mace responded, “Well, that’s what the inquiry is for, to get more evidence.” Because of course, it’s normal to try to impeach a President before you have any reason to.
But it’s NOT normal, and it shouldn’t be. Sign the petition to denounce this baseless impeachment inquiry today.
Thank you for calling out the Republicans’ bad faith agenda.
