As a nonprofit, reader-funded news outlet, we count on donations from readers to power everything we do. Other news outlets are funded through corporate advertising, subscription fees, or selling their readers’ private data. We refuse to do any of those things.

But the only way our model works is by meeting these periodic fundraising campaign goals—and with time running short, we’re $37,000 short of our goal.
