Dear John,

CIJA continues to work with Canada’s elected officials, media, and community leadership to ensure that the atrocities committed by Hamas against the people of Israel are not forgotten while Israel defends its citizens from terror.

Read on to learn more.

Israel is at war with Hamas and other Iran-backed terror groups. And it’s not that Israel should defend itself. It must defend itself – for its very survival. That’s why it’s as important as ever for our allies here to continue to demonstrate their support.

As we’ve seen from protests across the world and, sadly, even here in Canada, there are some who want to make it difficult for leaders to stand with the Jewish community in Canada and internationally and support Israel as it defends itself from terror. We cannot let that happen.

Just as we need our political leaders at all levels to continue their support, we need you to encourage it.

Myriam Azogui Halbwax, CIJA’s Director of Missions in Israel, shares her viewpoint as a Canadian and Québécoise Israeli on the detrimental position to which many default of holding Israel to blame for responding to attacks and atrocities committed against it – and the danger this response poses to every nation.

It’s been more than three weeks since Hamas terrorists murdered more than 1,400 people in Israel and abducted 220 women, children, and men, taking them to Gaza.

Join concerned citizens of Canada in signing a petition that calls upon the Prime Minister to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held captive by Hamas; to use all resources – diplomatic, economic, and military – to pressure Hamas to release all hostages; and to reaffirm Canada's commitment to supporting the State of Israel in its defence against terrorism.

Worried by the rise of antisemitism in Canada, CIJA and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto announced the creation of a Legal Rapid Response Team (LRRT), designed to use every legal tool available to combat Jew-hatred. Based within CIJA’s Legal Task Force, chaired by Nanette Rosen, a veteran of Canada’s Justice Department, and Mark Freiman, the former Deputy Attorney General of Ontario and former head of the Canadian Jewish Congress, the LRRT will draw on the legal expertise of hundreds of lawyers from the Jewish community and from among our allies and ensure that members of professional organizations adhere to their ethical obligations.

If you're a lawyer interested in learning how this task force empowers the legal community to strategically navigate the Jewish community's response to crisis, please register below to join us October 30.
