Advocating for Lousiana's Water Resources
This week the House moved forward with additional individual funding bills and passed the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This bill not only prioritizes flood protection and necessary resources for our nation’s waterways, but ensures energy security by providing funding for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Specifically, the bill includes vital funding I fought to include for Southeast Louisiana.
First, this bill includes $28 million in funding for the Morganza-to-the-Gulf Project, which protects not only the communities and residents within Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes but also an industrial base that supports 20 percent of our nation’s domestically-produced energy.
I also fought to include $500,000 for the deepening of the Houma Navigation Canal to support not only our nation’s offshore energy exploration and production, but the shipbuilding vital to our national defense.
