A NOTE FROM CHRISSY

On Wednesday, after 21 days at a standstill, the House finally elected a Speaker and we are back to work. Although Mike Johnson is not the Speaker I wanted - he’s an election denier and supports a national abortion ban - I am hopeful that we can find enough common ground to fund critical government programs, support our allies, and generally do the hard work for our communities that we were elected to do. I have hope. Here’s what else we’ve been focused on:

Southeast PA Slated for TWO Federal Hubs
In a huge win, Philadelphia was selected by the Biden Administration as one of seven regional hubs for the creation of a national network to accelerate the development and commercialization of low-cost, clean hydrogen. Created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, this hub will help our country meet our climate goals and produce new, good paying jobs and greater investment in our region. One week later, we learned that our region was also being selected as one of five biotechnology Tech Hubs in the country for the development of Precision Medicine. Created by the CHIPS and Science Act, this hub will bring more investment and good paying jobs to the region while cementing the region’s reputation as a home for cutting-edge healthcare advances.

Leading the Charge for Service Member Reproductive Care

In recognition of my leadership on issues of importance to men and women serving in the military, I was recently named to the team negotiating the annual defense bill (aka National Defense Authorization Act or NDAA). Every year, after this bill passes the House and the Senate, House negotiators meet with Senate negotiators to work out the differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. In the same way that I have been fighting in committee and on the House floor for the rights of servicewomen to receive reproductive care, I will do so here. No woman – especially those who give so much to serve our country – should be denied the ability to make important choices about their own reproductive health.

Medicare Open Enrollment Town Hall
It’s that time of year! Not just Halloween and all things pumpkin spice, but Medicare Open Enrollment. I’ve been a staunch supporter of this incredibly vital government program that thousands of our neighbors depend on. That’s why next week, on Oct. 31, I’ll be hosting a Medicare Telephone Town Hall at 10 a.m. to answer all of your questions about the current open enrollment period. If you’re interested in enrolling in Medicare, I hope you’ll join us in conversation!

Through months good and bad, I’m so lucky to have you on my team. Thank you for supporting my fight for a better future for all Pennsylvanians, and I’ll be in touch again soon.
