For decades, we’ve seen repeated attacks on the U.S. Postal Service including from Donald Trump’s handpicked Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. These attacks not only threaten the essential and affordable mail services Americans have relied upon since our country was founded; they also put postal workers at risk of losing good-paying jobs―including Black workers, workers without bachelor’s degrees, and military veterans.

But what if we could expand the USPS’s mission, such as including Postal Banking? "Postal Banking" means we could bring basic financial services like low-cost savings and checking accounts to post offices throughout the country, helping millions of people with low incomes who are "unbanked or underbanked."

It’s time for Congress to strengthen the Postal Service while at the same time providing expanded essential services to each and every community across the country.

Fight for the future of the USPS! Send a message to your members of Congress urging them to untie the Postal Services’ hands and allow it to introduce new services―like Postal Banking―now.

Since there are post offices in virtually every zip code in the country, expanding the USPS’s mandate could help underserved communities in a myriad of ways. Whether it’s verifying Social Security or EBT cards, providing subway and bus passes, selling hunting and fishing licenses, delivering much-needed pharmaceuticals, or ensuring access to affordable financial services to often-marginalized communities, the list of possible services is long.

It’s critical that Congress allow the USPS to innovate, expand its ability to serve our communities, and put the Postal Service on track for long term fiscal health.

Take action right now by sending a message to your members of Congress to expand the USPS mandate, allow it to increase its services to the American people, and save the post office.
