He replaces Rick Barnes, who is leaving after four years to run for the Republican nomination for county tax assessor-collector. French, who previously ran in the primary for the Texas House of Representatives against Rep. Charlie Geren (R-Lake Worth) in 2016 and 2018, won on the second round of voting.
