We’ve come a long way, friend.
I remember that night in October 2015 when our Liberal team earned our first mandate under Justin Trudeau's leadership. We'd made a commitment to bring real change to Canadians after a decade of cuts from the previous Conservative government – and since then, we've been delivering real progress.
Together we’ve been:
- Supporting families: We’re making life more affordable with the Canada Child Benefit which is providing more money, tax-free, to 9 out of 10 families, and we introduced the Canada Dental Benefit to help kids get the dental care they need.
- Taking climate action: We’re protecting our environment with a ban on harmful single-use plastics and we’re protecting more than 14% of our oceans and coasts with the Oceans Protection Plan.
- Supporting seniors: When Conservatives increased the age of retirement to 67, we reversed that policy and restored the age of eligibility for OAS and GIS back to 65.
- Creating more affordable housing: We eliminated the GST on new rental construction and introduced the tax-free First Home Savings Account.
