On Thursday, a group of Carnegie Mellon University graduate student workers walked into Hunt Library in Oakland on a mission. Doctoral student in history Amzi Jeffs was among the group. He held a petition in his hands

Jeffs and the other students presented the university provost with the document containing more than 1,000 signatures, calling on CMU to provide all its workers with a $1,500 payment that eligible faculty and staff received in June to offset inflation. Leaders say more demands will follow.
